Born in Shrewsbury in 1945, Brian Hick has led a complex professional life. Trained at Birkbeck College and Drama Centre, London, he worked in professional theatre before coming into education.

He has directed opera, theatre and musicals, including the first modern revival of Kipling’s The Harbour Watch and the world premiere of Ken Robert’s Quel Weekend. He has written for a range of newspapers and for over twenty years been a feature writer for Musical Opinion. He is currently Editor Emeritus and a regular contributor to The Organ, which he edited for 15 years, and is a member of the Society of Sussex Authors.

He lectures regularly and has presented illustrated talks on Handel at the Buxton and Three Choirs Festivals. He has presented his own verse at the St Leonards Festival.

He holds a Doctorate in Education from Sussex University, and is currently a Senior Consultant with Education London, and lives with his wife in St Leonards on Sea, where they've been since 1980.
